How to improve technical cooperation and interoperability at the e-infrastructure level

The workshop will be held in parallel to workshop 4.2 (“How to promote and foster the development & adoption of common mark-up standards & interoperability between schemas”) and be split into two working groups:

Topics

  • Review implementations of http URI identifiers for collections at Edinburgh, BGBM, Paris, MfN, Kew, and Leiden (see http://www.pro-ibiosphere.eu/news/0_7_2013#4296).
  • Discuss access services, registrations, and potential applications.
  • Discuss the use of http URIs beyond collections.
  • Plan roadmap for further implementations.

Topics

  • Discuss the potential of a central service registry for biodiversity-related infrastructures and services
  • Review the present functionality of the BiodiversityCatalogue and recommend additional features (https://www.biodiversitycatalogue.org/).
  • Develop a roadmap for advertising the system and integrating services into the catalogue.

11:00 - 12:30 BiodiversityCatalogue: hands-on experience

  • Participants will try the catalogue themselves (for example by registering real or fictive services).

12:30 - 13:15 Lunch break

13:15 - 13:45 Define break-out discussion groups for the afternoon.

Possible topics:

  • BiodiversityCatalogue Meta-services. The BiodiversityCatalogue offers "Meta-service" endpoints for searching and retrieving service metadata compiled in the catalogue. the break-out group will assess theses services and recommend potential improvements.
  • Service Category Classification. The BiodiversityCatalogue offers a controlled set of service categories which can be used to classify services. The break-out group will make recomendations for improving this classification system.
  • User Annotations. A system for annotating services and feed-back of user experiences to the service providers could be an important additional feature for the BiodiversityCatalogue. The break-out group will draft an initial specification for such a system.
  • Service metadata. The break-out group will assess the present set of Metadata elements used in the catalogue for describing individual servicesand make recommendations for additional elements.
  • How to promote the BiodiversityCatalogue.
